Your account and your data

You can start without one

GiftTracker works straight away with no sign-up. Your lists are saved to an anonymous account that only this installation can reach, with no email address or password attached to them.

The catch is that there is nothing to restore from. Reinstall the app, lose the device or move to a new one, and the lists go with it.

What an account gives you

Creating an account is free and takes a moment. It backs your lists up, so they survive a lost phone and follow you to a new one. It also unlocks App lock, which is not available to guests because there would be nothing to unlock back into.

You can create an account with an email address and password, or sign in with Google or Apple. Everything you have already added comes with you, so there is no reason to wait until your lists are empty.

Lock the app

Anyone who picks up your phone can otherwise read what you have bought them. Tap your initials at the top left of Home, then App lock, and turn it on. You can unlock with a PIN, or with Face ID or your fingerprint if your phone supports it.

Tip

This is worth turning on before December rather than after, especially if someone you are buying for shares your phone.

Using GiftTracker offline

Once you are set up, the whole app works with no connection. Add events, add gifts, change a status, edit a budget: all of it saves on the device and syncs the next time you are online. You will not lose anything by working on a train.

Changing your details

Account details is where you change your name, email address or password. Tap your initials at the top left of Home to find it, then tap the one you want to change. Changing your email or password asks for your current password first, and a new email address only takes over once you follow the link we send to it.

If you signed in with Google or Apple, your email address is shown but cannot be edited here, because it belongs to that account rather than to GiftTracker.

Deleting your account

Delete account sits at the bottom of Account details. It removes your account along with every event, recipient, gift and gift idea attached to it.

Warning

Deletion is permanent and there is no undo. If you only want to clear one occasion, archive the event instead.
